Dating Website Design - petermoses - 01-26-2011 01:26 PM

Hello all

I've been asked to quote for a dating website. Does anyone know where I can start?

I've not got much to go off at the moment, they just want a ball park figure. What is the best programming language to use to achieve something that can compete in this market place. They said that they have spotted a gap in the market, which is a good start.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Between $1,000 and $100,000.
Seriously? You're going to need a hell of a lot more information than 'I want a dating site.'.

It'll take an extremely large amount of OO PHP, a well-designed, normalised database design, and an intuitive interface.
There will likely be scripts for you to download and modify.

If i Use open source software, does it help in reducing the price a bit.
I've looked at open source platforms and Boonex / dolphin 7 looks good. But I've been on other forums and this area is a huge topic. Basically all the open source ones are rubbish, way too buggy, security issues, hacking issues etc.

It would be a good idea to try these to see if the concept works but in the end you're going to need something robust and reliable. But if the concepts works then you can afford a team of programmers.

Before you find open source software, You atleast need to start with a set of high level requirements - front end pages and features, backend system admin and features, if possible references to existing sites/systems that do fulfil some parts of the requirments. Then you can start to ask reasonable questions to build up a picture and give a reasonable ball park figure.

Before getting this far there is no way you can give a resonable figure, margin for error is way to high.

PHP and Dreamweaver8 will help you a lot in designing a web page.

You're right! I am also using this one with my current website.
