I have heard about RSS feed but I dont have any idea about it.What is this RSS feed and for what purpose it is needed?

RSS is a web application which is used in websites to store the updates so that whenever a change or modification is done in the website,it shows it in the feed and we do not have to visit the website repeatitively to get the notifications. Mostly this is applied on blog sites.
