Drop Down menu with categories, brands and text/images

Hi All,

I was wondering if anybody knew how to replicate this menu;

in Magento.

There is only one plugin out there that can do it but it costs $150 dollars and I’d rather figure it out myself.

I did a search but can’t really find anything that covers more than just the drop down in two columns.
